A 170-mile, three-day adventure by bike awaits anyone ready to take up the challenge on behalf of sustainable transport charity Sustrans. The Coasts and Castles sponsored bike ride begins in the breathtaking capital city of Edinburgh on Saturday 24 July and ends in vibrant Newcastle on Monday 26 July, 2010.Along the way, riders will take in some of the fabulous coastal scenery and countryside, as well as the magnificent heritage of Scotland and the north east, including Edinburgh and Bamburgh Castles. Plus, they will be raising sponsorship money to support the work of Sustrans which includes creating and maintaining the National Cycle Network – now more than 12,000 miles long and celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year.Jenny Sheriff, Sustrans’ Fundraising Director, said: ‘This is an opportunity to enjoy a fabulous stretch of cycle route in beautiful surroundings.’As well as experiencing the thrill of achieving a physical feat, riders will have the extra feel-good factor of raising money for our work at Sustrans, and what better time to do that than in the fifteenth year of the National Cycle Network. It certainly could never have reached this milestone anniversary without the fundraising efforts of our supporters.’ The Coasts and Castles ride is being organised by CharityAdventure, a not-for-profit organisation that leads sponsored bike rides for charities, and backed by Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative. This year riders are invited to raise as much as they can for Sustrans and will get fundraising ideas and resources from Sustrans’ supporters team to help them. There will also be some great prizes for those who raise the most money. The total cost of the trip will be around 80 (if camping) 120 (on an 18-berth bus) or 140 (for hotel accommodation) and rider’s luggage will be transferred for them between overnight stops. For more information or to book your place, please call CharityAdventure on 07800 554765, email info@charityadventure.org or visit http://charityadventure.org.uk
