Yesterday was the annual Responsible Tourism Awards at the World Travel Market in London. A great opportunity to recognise the true changemakers within the tourism world, and a good excuse for a few cheeky glasses of bubbly. This year we were delighted, but not surprised, to see so many of our members among the final shortlist – whittled down from 1700 applicants.
Congratulations to Ecosphere – Himalayan trekking and adventures, and Matava Fiji – Fijis premier eco-resort, who won ‘best in a mountain environment’ and ‘best in a marine environment’ respectively. We recognised them as ‘pioneers’ as soon as they joined, and the awards are no less than they deserve for some incredible work combining amazing adventure experiences with community development and conservation work.
Congratulations too to shortlisted contenders for the awards: Under the Thatch – unique accommodation in the Uk and Europe, The Great Orangutan Project – orangutan volunteer holidays in Borneo, Kasbah de Toubkal – mountain retreat in the Atlas Mountains, and Shakti Himalaya – village walks in the Himalayas.
All incredible programs, and we are delighted to be working with you. Well done too to all the other entrants, some of whom we hunted down straight away to invite them to join us. So you will be seeing even more award winning travel choices on the site soon, where you can get straight in touch with them.
