Jules from the Fellsman Race has been in touch with information on the 2012 Fellsman race – its the 50th running of the race. Its going to be held on the 12th and 13th of May, based in the Yorkshire Dales.
Postal entries open on the 1st of January 2012, with web entries opening on the 1st of February. There are currently going to be 450 entries available, with prices being 24 if you enter before the 1st of April and 33 thereafter.
The Fellsman is a 62 mile running event, covering 11,000 feet of height gain. Competitors are required to navigate between checkpoints over rough and open ground. The route starts at Ingleton and takes in Ingleborough, Whernside, Gragareth, Blea Moor, Great Knoutberry, Dodd Fell, Fleet Moss, Middle Tongue, Buckden Pike and Great Whernside, ending at Threshfield near Grassington. Current records stand at 10h 6min and 11h 50 min for male and female competitors respectively – think you can do any better?!
