The winter schedule kicks in on Sunday 12th December and includes daily overnight services from Paris to Bourg St Maurice. If you want to maximise your skiing days over days taken off work, book the Friday overnight sleeper and be on the slopes by 10am Saturday. Return on the Sunday sleeper and youll have nine days skiing or snowboarding in exchange for just five days holiday.
The train to Bourg stops at Motiers en route so the list of resorts that can be accessed in less than 45 minutes from either station includes the Three Valleys (Courchevel, Mribel and Val Thorens), La Plagne, Les Arcs, Tignes and Val dIsere. Les Arcs (Arc 1600) is only seven minutes by funicular from Bourg, for example.
That means the following muchbetter ski chalets are well within reach:
The next date for the diary is Thursday 4th November, when tickets for travel between 4th February and 14th March inclusive go on sale, then for any trains running after 14th March, the usual three month booking window applies.
Prices for return train travel from London St Pancras to Bourg St Maurice with Eurostar and SNCF or TGV, changing in Paris, start from 109 for the day service, 135 for the overnight option, when booked through Rail Europe.
These on-sale dates differ to those for the direct Eurostar services to the Alps, which can be booked up to 120 days before travel. But these trains, which travel from London to Moutiers and Bourg St Maurice in about seven hours or overnight, only operate on Saturdays during winter.
